The Maris Stella Symphonic Band, which was an initiative by the school’s first principal Brother Chanel Soon, started off as a brass band. In the mid-sixties, it became a military band as a result of the National Band Movement. Since then, the band participated in numerous SYF Combined Band Displays and performed at the National Day Parade in 1997, competed in the Thailand International Wind Ensemble Competition in 2009, and invited to perform at the Istana in 2016. The Band continues to grow from strength to strength under the tutelage of their music director, Mr. Adrian Chiang, clinching Gold Awards at the biennial Singapore Youth Festival since 2005 till present.
